As the cameras roll, Jay Leno is standing next to a stunning 1968 Camaro. A few moments later, Tim Allen, a true car enthusiast, arrives and is welcomed by Jay.
Jay remarks that there are many car lovers in Hollywood, but few can match Tim’s passion for cars. They both admire the car and talk about the subtle changes Tim made to the 68 Camaro.
Tim explains that he always loved racing and that he had a green Camaro with a stock 327 engine. He redid it, removing the console and adding flares, just like the ones on the Trans Am cars. He also replaced the engine with a 427 engine that he got from a Central Office Production Order (COPO).
Tim proudly shows off the car’s details, like the custom rally wheels and the black bumpers. He also talks about how he wanted to make the car look like it was made by Chevy, so he kept everything as original as possible.
Jay is impressed with the car’s interior and how Tim chose to remove the console. He jokes about the Flomax sticker on the brake pedal and the air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror. They both admire the car’s steering wheel, which Tim says is nicely padded.
As they move on to the engine, Tim explains that he wanted it to look like the original engine but with a few changes. He left all the braids and covered the electrics with a brushed aluminum finish.
Jay and Tim take the car for a spin, and it’s clear that it’s a well-made and well-designed vehicle. They talk about how the car’s suspension was specially designed to handle the horsepower, and how it has no driver aids like ABS or traction control.
As the day comes to a close, Jay and Tim thank each other for their time, and Tim drives off in his beautiful 1968 Camaro 427 COPO.
